Reward and Recognition
Here at Tyler, we’re proud to offer a range of reward and recognition schemes. We really believe in celebrating people for the work they do – whether that’s going above and beyond to help a colleague, or consistently putting in extra effort. Recognising these moments not only shows appreciation, but also helps motivate and encourage great work (and who doesn’t love a reward!).
We currently have five main reward and recognition schemes:
- Employee of the Month
- Pick Out of the Box
- Spin of the Wheel
- Perkbox points
- A shoutout on our Teams chat
For this blog, we asked our employees to rate each scheme from 1–5. We then calculated the average score and ranked them from fifth to first. Below, we’ll explain each scheme and share what our team had to say.
5th – Pick Out of the Box (2.69/5)
Pick Out of the Box allows one employee to nominate another if they’ve done a great job or supported someone with a task. The nominated employee then gets to choose a surprise item from the box.
The box includes a wide variety of treats, such as water bottles, books, stationery, small vouchers, stress balls, chocolate, and more. Some employees mentioned they hadn’t yet had the chance to pick from the box, which made it harder to rate highly. That said, many people agreed it’s always fun to see what new goodies appear!
4th – Perkbox (2.77/5)
Perkbox is an online platform offering discounts from hundreds of brands. It also allows team members to give shoutouts and award points to colleagues, which can unlock additional perks. Everyone receives a set number of points at the start of each quarter, too.
Employees liked the concept and found the discounts useful – especially for food, drinks, and essential everyday items.
3rd – Spin of the Wheel (3/5)
Spin of the Wheel works in a similar way to Pick Out of the Box. When nominated by another employee, you get to spin the wheel and win a prize. Rewards range from £20 petrol to skipping a round of drinks for a week, 10am start on a day of your choice, takeout lunch of your choice or even another Pick Out of the Box.
With a solid middle ranking, Spin of the Wheel is clearly popular. Many employees feel it has some great rewards and would love to see it used even more often.
2nd – Shoutout on Teams (3.15/5)
Taking second place is a simple but powerful one: a shoutout on our Teams chat. This involves publicly recognising a colleague for the great work they’ve done.
Employees really value this form of recognition, as it comes directly from their peers and shows genuine appreciation. These shoutouts can also lead to other rewards, such as Spin of the Wheel or Pick Out of the Box, making them even more meaningful.
1st – Employee of the Month (4.38/5)
By a landslide, Employee of the Month is our team’s favourite reward and recognition scheme.
This award is decided by employees through anonymous voting, where they nominate who they believe deserves recognition and explain why. The person with the most votes wins – and enjoys the added bonus of a free half day and a donation to a charity of their choice.
Employees love this scheme because it’s peer-led, genuinely rewarding, and recognises consistent hard work throughout the month. And let’s be honest… a free half day doesn’t hurt either!
So there you have it – our reward and recognition schemes, ranked by the people who matter most.
Does your company have similar schemes, or different ways of recognising employees for their hard work? Let us know! We’re always looking for new ways to celebrate and appreciate the amazing work our team does.
