For our June monthly Tyler News, we are diving into how we stay productive. Productivity is often talked about in terms of deadlines, targets, and to-do lists, but for us, it’s about finding a balance that helps our team do their best work without burning out. In this month’s article, we are going to to share how the team stays productive while looking after their wellbeing, from the habits and tools that help us stay focused to the support systems we have in place. We’ll also be highlighting some of the team activities that bring us together.
What the Team Says
We asked members of the team what helps them stay productive throughout the day, and here are 5 things that people came back with.
One of the most common answers and coming in at number 1 was surprisingly simple: hot drinks!
We love a good hot drink in the office, whether that’s a “posh cof” from our coffee machine or a classic cup of tea. Not only does it provide a welcome energy boost, but taking turns to make a round for colleagues also gives us the chance to step away from our desks for a few minutes. Sometimes, a short break and a chat with teammates is exactly what’s needed to reset and refocus.
Taking regular breaks away from our desks was another popular answer.
We actively encourage this throughout the day because productivity isn’t about sitting in the same spot for hours on end. Our office is surrounded by a lovely environment, including a small field for a quick walk and an outdoor seating area where people can enjoy some fresh air. Especially during the summer months, it’s nice to step outside, clear your head and return feeling refreshed.
A more simple productivity tip that came up time and again was keeping a to-do list.
Having a clear plan for the day helps the team stay organised, prioritise tasks and maintain focus. There’s also something satisfying about ticking tasks off as they’re completed, helping to build momentum throughout the day.
It was also clear from the feedback that one of the biggest factors in keeping us productive is our team itself.
We have a supportive culture where colleagues look out for one another, help each other through busy periods and, most importantly, help each other survive Mondays! We regularly celebrate achievements, recognise great work and make sure people feel valued through our reward and recognition scheme. Knowing your efforts are appreciated can make a huge difference to motivation and productivity. One of the great things about working at Tyler is the strong support available for mental health and wellbeing.
Within the office, we have two Mental Health First Aiders, Rachael and Magda, who are always available for anyone who needs a chat, guidance or support. We also have Levi, our Men’s Health Champion who is another point of contact for team members who may need help or simply someone to talk to.
Having these support networks in place helps create an open and positive workplace where people feel comfortable reaching out when they need to. We actively encourage everyone to speak up if they’re struggling or need support, because looking after our wellbeing is just as important as achieving our goals.
Last but certainly not least, several team members highlighted the importance of social activities, both during and after the working day.
Spending time together outside of our usual work routines helps us build stronger relationships, unwind and maintain a positive team culture.
One idea we’ve recently introduced is a post-work dog walk. As we’re lucky enough to have some four-legged friends regularly visit the office, we thought it would be a great opportunity for the team to get together for an informal walk after work. Dog owner or not, everyone is welcome to join. The plan is to finish the walk at a local pub, giving everyone the chance to relax, enjoy a drink and spend some quality time with colleagues outside of the office environment.
We’ve also launched our new Monthly Munch initiative. Once a month, the team comes together for a shared breakfast or lunch, chosen by our Employee of the Month. It’s a chance for everyone to step away from their desks, catch up with one another and enjoy some time together away from work tasks and deadlines.
We value opportunities to socialise both in and outside of work, and these activities play an important role in strengthening teamwork, boosting morale and helping us maintain the supportive culture that makes Tyler such a great place to work.
