At Tyler Packaging, no two days are quite the same – but every day is built on the same foundation: teamwork, problem-solving, and a shared sense of purpose that comes from being a close-knit team of just twenty people. In a company this size, every role matters, and every voice carries weight. From the early-morning rhythm of the warehouse floor to the fast-paced conversations shaping new business opportunities, each day unfolds as a collaboration between people who know their work makes a difference.

For Rory, the warehouse manager, the day starts before most have even had their first coffee. It’s about making sure everything runs like clockwork – stock in the right place, orders moving out on time, and the team set up for success. Meanwhile, Fiona, one of the business development managers, begins her day looking outward – connecting with clients, spotting opportunities, and helping drive the company forward in an ever-competitive market.

This blog takes you inside a typical day at Tyler Packaging through both of their perspectives – two very different roles, united by the same goal: keeping the business moving, growing, and thriving.

🏭 A Day in the Life of… a Warehouse Manager, Rory

🌅 7:00am – Early Start

My warehouse day starts early. I’m in and ready for 7:00am, focusing on getting set up for the day ahead – reviewing deliveries, planning workloads, and making sure everything is prepared for goods coming in and going out.

📦 Managing Goods In & Out
A key part of my role is overseeing the flow of stock. This includes:

  • Booking in deliveries
  • Checking goods in
  • Coordinating dispatch and outgoing orders

Accuracy and efficiency are essential to keep everything moving on schedule.

🚧 Daily Warehouse Operations
Throughout the day, I focus on making sure the warehouse runs smoothly. This includes:

  • Organising stock and space
  • Coordinating the team
  • Keeping operations efficient and on track

It’s a fast-paced environment where teamwork is everything, so I work closely with Chris to make sure we stay on track.

⚠️ Health & Safety First
One of my main priorities is health and safety. From ensuring procedures are followed to maintaining a safe working environment, it’s a core part of my role and built into every task throughout the day.

🔄 Keeping Things Moving
No two days are the same. Delays, urgent orders, or last-minute changes can all happen, so being able to adapt quickly is key.

End of Day
As the day winds down, I make sure everything is in order – stock accounted for, tasks completed, and the warehouse is ready to go again the next morning. Then I’m ready to do it all over again.

👩‍💼 A Day in the Life of… a Business Development Manager, Fiona

🌅 7:00am – Starting the Day
My day usually starts around 7:00am – sometimes earlier if I’m travelling. It’s all about getting my son off to college and myself ready for the day ahead. Breakfast is always the same (and always hits the spot): yoghurt, fruit, granola, a few dark chocolate chips, and of course, a cup of tea.

📧 7:45am – First Tasks
I begin by reviewing emails and picking up any actions from the previous day. I make a mental (or sometimes written) list of priorities – knowing full well it may change as the day unfolds.
I’ll also check HubSpot and LinkedIn before starting calls around 9:00am. This includes:

  • Chasing activity with customers
  • Making sure projects are on track
  • Catching up with colleagues on anything needed to support customers

📞 10:00am – Customer & Prospect Calls
By mid-morning, most people have settled into their day – so it’s the perfect time to start reaching out. I focus on:

  • Following up with existing contacts
  • Reaching out to new prospects
  • Contacting target companies from leads, exhibitions, website enquiries, and recommendations

Some calls are straightforward, others take more persistence – tracking down the right contact and getting past gatekeepers. It’s challenging, but I enjoy it. Tools (and a bit of AI help!) make it easier to find the right people and information.

📨 Throughout the Day
Alongside calls, I’m constantly managing emails and responding to queries from customers, colleagues, and suppliers. It’s a balance of staying organised while being responsive.

🥗 Lunch
Lunch is usually taken at my desk while working. I prefer to keep things moving, though I’ll occasionally take a short break if time allows.

🚗 Afternoon – Planning & Preparation
Afternoons are often more reactive, with customer needs and urgent tasks taking priority. I also prepare for the next day, which may include:

  • Planning travel routes
  • Researching companies and contacts
  • Preparing for meetings
  • Organising samples to showcase what we do

End of Day
I usually finish around 5:30pm, although this can vary. I keep my laptop open and phone on to stay aware of any updates, even if I pick them up properly the next day.

🚘 On the Road
When travelling, I’ve definitely become a creature of habit. Heading west on the A14, I’ll often stop at Spaldwick for a coffee and a sausage roll from Greggs. Into London, it’s Broxbourne and Pret.
Time on the road is usually spent on calls or listening to Centreforce radio – though routes can be unpredictable!

🤝 The Best Part
Visiting customers is the highlight of my role. Seeing their operations firsthand and building relationships is what makes the job so rewarding. And after a busy day, getting home is always a welcome way to unwind.
