How is our compostable packaging made?
Made from up to three-layer laminate and reinforced with natural adhesives, Tyler’s compostable packaging solutions also use the below in their construction:
- FSC-certified kraft paper
- Heat-sealable film made from corn starch
- Resealable press-to-close zippers made from vegetal starch
- Barrier film derived from cellulose or metallised cellulose
The compostable materials we use provide a barrier against oxygen and moisture, making them perfect for a range of dry goods.
And for added peace of mind, all of the raw materials involved comply with the EU harmonised standard EN 13432:2000 for compostability, as well as the requirements of TÜV Austria certification for both home composting and industrial composting.

Fill in the form belowCompostable is not the same as recyclable. Recyclable means it’s possible to recycle a product back into itself or another product. Recycling compostable packaging would contaminate the recycling waste stream, so please do not dispose of it in recycling bins. However, it is organically recyclable and can be recycled with your food waste. For more info on this, check out our blog here.
You should always look for the correct bin designated for composting. For more information on the correct way to dispose of your compostable packaging, please head here.
In the correct conditions, ideally at 60 degrees, our packaging can break down in as little as 12 weeks for industrial composting. For home composting, the process will take up to 26 weeks at ambient temperatures of less than 30 degrees.
No, unfortunately not, many papers have plastic coatings to protect the product inside, which makes them not recyclable or compostable.
No, biodegradable bags are not compostable.
No, the compostable structures of this kind of packaging make them unsuitable for liquids.
If sent to landfill, the packaging would react in the same way as other organic waste, such as wood and paper. In such conditions, it would become trapped in an airtight environment without oxygen, causing it to degrade slowly and produce methane, for a number of years before fully breaking down.
Although compostable packaging can be 2-3 times more expensive than conventional plastic packaging, its environmental benefits make it more than worth the cost.
