Supporting Myton Hospice and the power of shopping second-hand
This November saw our last team building session of the year and what better way to incorporate a team building experience that combines the thrill of Bargain Hunt with the competitive spirit of The Apprentice, all in support of a local cause.
To kick it off and add a bit of competition, we divided into small teams- Red, Green, Blue and Pink – each group had a mix of talents, the mix brought out each person’s strengths and made for well-rounded teams.
The Teams:
Red Team (Lucy, Magda, Sam, Rory & Jo)
Pink Team: (Mark, Emma, James, Ilona & Chris)
Blue Team: (Adam, Claire, Joshua & Richard)
Green Team: (Levi, Danii, Tommy & Rachael)
Each team were tasked to turn £50 into a profitable venture by scouring local charity shops for hidden treasures which can be sold for profit. Starting on November 13th the teams had until December 6th to shop, sell, and strategize their way to victory. Here is how the first week unfolded . . .
Red Team (Lucy, Magda, Sam, Rory & Jo)
Red team hit the ground running, wasting no time in putting their £50 to work. Their proactive approach paid off early on, with enquiries already coming in for their purchases! Quick thinking and decisive shopping set an impressive tone for the challenge, proving that speed and confidence can bring big results.
Spent £38 – Remaining £12- Sold £0
Pink Team: (Mark, Emma, James, Ilona & Chris)
Hot on the red teams’ heels was the pink team, who also had early enquiries. Their approach was a mix of calculated purchases and a knack for spotting goods with high resale value. While they didn’t match Red’s momentum, they demonstrated that staying focused and making smart decisions is a recipe for steady progress.
Spent £20– Remaining £30- Sold £0
Blue Team: (Adam, Claire, Joshua & Richard)
Blue team showed a keen eye for quality, unearthing some true vintage gems in their charity shop hunts. However, they ended the week without any sales to show for their efforts. Their patience and optimism remained firm, confident that their collection would soon pay off.
Spent £36 – Remaining £14- Sold £0
Green Team: (Levi, Danii, Tommy & Rachael)
The Green team took a completely different approach. By the end of the first week, they had yet to spend a single penny. While this might seem like a setback, the teams deliberate strategy suggested they had a plan up their sleeve. Unfazed by their position at the back of the pack, they were determined to play the long game.
Spent £0 – Remaining £50- Sold £0
It was an exciting and competitive second week at Tyler HQ. The teams were ramping up their efforts and the competition was fiercer than ever. From creative ideas to impressive sales. Each team were pulling out all the stops to claim victory, here’s how the 2nd week panned out….

Blue Team: (Adam, Claire, Joshua & Richard)
Embracing vintage vibes with retro clothing and homeware, hoping nostalgia would grab the buyer’s attention to the niche market they had gone for.

An upcycled project was the way forward for the green purchasing a large piece of furniture and bringing it back to life appealing to eco- conscious shoppers – This was their money maker!

The last few days were manic with small remaining budgets the teams scrambled to make final purchases and sales, reducing prices and flooding Facebook Marketplace with adverts. It was still anyone’s for the taking …
Red Team (Lucy, Jo, Magda, Sam & Rory)
Sticking with their theme of things with wheels, last minute a skateboard was added to their inventory following the successful sale of a bike & scooter surely this would wheel them into 1st place?
Pink Team: (Mark, Emma, James, Ilona & Chris)
Staying on trend with a Paddington teddy hoping to find a loving new home… was Paddington fever enough to pivot them to victory?
Blue Team: (Adam, Claire, Joshua & Richard)
Celebrating their sales of a jigsaw, they snapped up board games hoping their vintage -meets family fun strategy will get them into the lead with a cosy profit!
Green Team: (Levi, Danii, Tommy & Rachael)
Feeling triumphant with their upcycled masterpiece, they used their sales patter to haggle and secure a hoover and a charming rocking horse with their final budget this was not a one-horse race!
The final day of the charity shop challenge arrived, and the atmosphere was electric. With teams racing to make their final last sales and secure the win, every minute counted. At 9,30am just before the shop closed, the pink team managed a crucial sale … but was it enough??? 10am the figures were locked in and submitted, as the suspense built, the totals were checked, and results were ready to be revealed….
4th Place- Unfortunately not getting into the Profit zone with minus £32 the Blue Team
3rd Place- Impressive profit of £60 the Green Team
2nd Place- Incredible profit of £111 the Red Team
1st Place- Outstanding profit of £124.50 the Pink Team
PINK TEAM swooped in and stole the win with their last-minute baby bouncer sale just £13.50 ahead of the RED team.
After the winners were announced, the teams all came together to celebrate with a hearty homemade chilli lunch prepared by Levi & Holli.
The Grand total
Together, we raised an incredible £464.65 for Myton Hospice, a charity close to many hearts. But the generosity didn’t stop there…. Tyler Packaging doubled the amount, bringing the total to a phenomenal £930!!!!
What’s more, our efforts didn’t just help Myton Hospice. By purchasing exclusively from local charity shops, we also reinvested £200 back into other charities across Leamington area.
This challenge wasn’t just about sales, it was about creativity, teamwork and making a difference. Every purchase, every upcycled item and every sale supported a wider cause, proving how much can be achieved when people come together.
A huge thank you to everyone involved for their hard work, generosity and enthusiasm. It’s been an unforgettable journey, and the impact we’ve made together is truly outstanding. Here’s to supporting our community and making a difference.
